Keyboardist and composer Keenan Baxter, of the Valparaiso area, is a Grammy Contender (2006) and also a composer/producer. This “Top 40 Worldwide” young talent offers original compositions in Smooth Jazz, Celtic, Blues, Reggae, and Caribbean styles. He had over a dozen CDs to his credit by the age of 21 and has performed in several Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana venues, including Winey Beach Café, Midtown Station and Central Lounge, Love of Art Festival, Taste of Porter County, and Pierogi Fest for 5 years! Unlike most musicians, Keenan was a composer for 8 years before even playing any instrument, which creates his “signature sound” that utilizes multiple instruments and complex melody brilliance with a bass and percussion emphasis. Keenan started producing and composing at the age of 14 and has an amazing set of ears and a unique talent for arranging material and writing well crafted songs. He attended the Music Industry Workshop in Chicago (Studio Chicago) and is currently studying composition at Front Porch Music. He had a song selected by MTV for their “Sweet 16 show” in 2007. His Grammy Contender 2006 was in the categories of Best Album and Best Record with his chart topping album, Crave the Floor! As a producer, he has produced recordings for local rock bands, vocalists, and industry professionals. He completed a film short called “Scary Movie 2” that can be viewed on you tube. He also is a music composer for films, which puts him in a different category and skill level than your typical songwriter. He loves to play songs from movies at his concerts and appearances, which is also special treat not heard very often. Baxter’s formidable aptitude in the world of music has already garnered him noteworthy praise. Keenan’s 2005 release – “Crave the Floor”, an album of high-energy dance tracks – nabbed a pre-nomination for the 2006 Grammys in the best record and best album categories. The album’s titular song made the grade, earning popularity in the Latino Market – where it grabbed a slot on the LatinPool Jan 06 Dance Mix CD – and making the charts in the United States Record Pools. “Decent” crashed into the Top 40 Indie Records listings on a global scale.

This song was written for the Bar “Drena’s” which subsequently closed after Keenan wrote this song. Somehow, Keenan picked up on the sadness the owner was feeling when nobody knew the restaurant – bar was about to close.
“Drena’s Bridge” is a sad, Ballad – Rock – Jazzy styled song. Many of Keenan’s songs are hard to pin point in to a genre, since he was self taught until he was 21 years old.
